Day 25 Hue motor bikes and back to Hoi An

So says Dee, today we are going to all hire Motorbikes and drivers and go on a tour of Hue, down the back alleys that tourists don’t normally go. We will see the countryside, visit a ‘locals’ market that has no other tourists, see a museum dedicated to the Rice Farming of the Hue area, visit the Tomb of the 4th King and have dinner cooked by Budist Nuns. Who’s up for it?

All of us. Cheryl was a bit nervous at first, but Dee assured her that she would have the tour leader who was very experienced.

The market was not there for tourists, but for the locals. It was just outside of Hue. It was a very colourful place with lots going on.

The Rice museum
The Rice museum

The Rice Museum answered a lot of questions we had about Rice production in Vietnam. Dee told us Vietnam is one of the largest exporters of rice in the world. We saw what it looked like in the various stages. We had seen farmers in a rice paddy in Cambodia cutting by hand, we had also seen machines for cutting the rice as well. We were told by the Cambodian farmers they were cutting by hand because the rain had knocked over the stalks.

Next Dee told us about the devastation caused by a snail to the farmers crops.

These snails lay hundreds of eggs, and they then eat everything they can. It’s a big problem.

And now for coffee … and extras … Dee had purchased various things from the market for us to try. But the special one was at the coffee shop. Boiled eggs, seems ok?  But these ones had fully formed chicks in them! Some of our group tried them, I didn’t fancy!

We weaved our way Lake a long snake of G-Adventurers down the highways and byways that are normally saved for the locals, we saw the locals just getting on with life.
