Our journey starts

We left home on Wednesday 2nd November, backpacks loaded to the full plus an additional “hand luggage” attached to our fronts.

From the house to the railway station is normally a 7 to 8 minute walk. It must have taken us 15 minutes.  By the time we were at the bottom of the hill, the weight of the rucksacks was starting to tell and we might have mentioned regrets that we didn’t have a suitcase with wheels.

The steps up to the railway platform were killers with mutters of “I need to adjust this rucksack, its killing me!!!”

We had arranged to walk to the end of the platform to shout goodbye to `hay let who would stand in her back garden.  No reply after several calls.  As we turned around to walk back along the platform – there was Hayley walking towards us.  It was lovely to see her and Lester and helped the time pass as we chatted waiting for the delayed train.

An easy exchange at Leicester station and onto the fast train to London, travelling First Class (with all our rucksacks). No problems on the underground to get to Heathrow Airport.

From the airport we caught the hotel hopper bus to our hotel for the night – Premier Inn, Bath Road.

A very modern hotel built round the central corridor of cafes and restaurants. A bedroom with two emourmous beds in. All very comfy.  Dinner in the hotel restaurant and early to bed.
